Community Planning

Hattie’s Dream Foundation is looking for a Volunteer Community Planner/Grant Writer to advise on and participate in research, grant writing, resource development, and community partnerships and involvement. The Community Planning Board Member will serve as an ambassador of the brand and our values, while supporting community-based planning and engagement initiatives focused on education, exposure, and empowerment. 

You will: 

• Attend all board meetings

• Conduct research and grant writing for funding for funding initiatives. 

• Familiarize yourself with our organization's programs, goals and financial needs to develop proposals.

• Provide feedback as needed on public-facing materials and community project proposals. 

• Oversee community partnerships and potential sponsors/donors

You are: 

• Passionate about helping youth and their growth 

• Entrepreneurial in mindset and goal-oriented

• Positive and collaborative

• Nonjudgmental towards underserved communities

• A “No task is too small” person

• Conducting oneself in external and internal discussions appropriately, including maintaining respectful discussions with and about the youth in under-served communities

You have:

• Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Urban or Community Planning or similar 

• At least 1-2 years in a community-based organization, nonprofit, or public sector field

• Experience conducting studies, writing reports and proposals, facilitating meetings with community and inter-agency groups

• Excellent written and oral communication skills 

•Thorough knowledge and/or experience working with New York City Housing Authority and their developments 

• Experience raising funds for nonprofit or community programming, a plus

• Experience working with civic associations and/or community organizations a plus 

• Experience working with youth, a double plus

Expectations:

• Travel is not required as everything is virtual. However, future events will be in New York City. 

• In addition to the above listed activities, you will be expected to attend our events as much as possible. 

Compensation

• This is a volunteer-based position, so there is no compensation or financial requirement at this point in time.
